Great Turnout for ECA’s 2009 “Saturday in the Park” Parade and Picnic

The Edgebrook Community Association hosted one of its most successful Independence Day Parade and Picnics, on Saturday, July 4, 2009.  The theme of this year’s event was “Saturday in the Park…Edgebrook’s 4th of July.”  A record number of cars, bikes, kids and bands marched in the parade, which also featured a live camel, zebra and miniature train.

Winning parade entries were:

Most Creative:  John Hennessey

Best Float:  Cub Scout Pack 3957

Most Participation:  Hannah, Jessica, Simone, Emma and Bridget from Edgebrook School

Best Dressed in Uniform:  Boy Scout Troop 957

Most Patriotic Dog:  Misty

Best Decorated Bike: Timmy

Best Family:  The Swinkle Family

Most School Spirit:  Wildwood School

Coolest Car:  Proctor Family and Friends

Most Colorful:  The Budill Family

The parade was followed by a picnic at Wildwood Park.  The Boy Scouts sold fresh corn and watermelon and the ECA sold hot dogs, hamburgers, brats and soft drinks.  The weather held out and the little bit of drizzle did not put a damper on the fun.

New this year was the addition of Old Fashioned Relay Races, which were sponsored by the Wildwood School PTA’s Executive Board.  More than 60 kids competed in a sack race, a balloon race, a backwards race, an egg and spoon race and a hula-hoop toss. Each child took home a medal and a prize for participating in the fun.

The picnic also featured a huge inflatable slide and bouncing unit for the kids, generously donated by the Andriacci family.  Adults and children enjoyed a variety of entertainment and activities, including miniature train rides and live music.
